Planned Parenthood, ACLU sue four states over abortion restrictions

A coalition of abortion rights advocates sued government officials in Iowa, Ohio, Oklahoma and Alabama on Monday to ensure access to abortion during the pandemic. Abortion rights groups argue that the pandemic is being used by states as a guise to block abortion access. So far, federal courts have ruled that Alabama and Ohio can’t prevent abortions during the pandemic, according to the ACLU.

Someone save this story for the next time someone tries to claim that abortions aren't Planned Parenthood's primary reason for existing.

Abortion is a selective procedure that just happens to end the existence of a genetically distinct life. No. It is not a right you have.

This may actually hurt the abortion cause by showing that is not an essential service. That snowballs into not a protected right, not paid for by medical providers and so on

If it is an elective procedure, then it is inherently one of convenience. Though, it is interesting to watch people spin an argument about how the convenience of abortion trumps the necessity of treating people with a fatal illness.

All non essential medical procedures have been cancelled or suspended and abortions are non essential.

I love how people want to stop abortions but do not want to pay to help the mother raise it. They are also the same Christians who can’t wait to execute prisoners. Something is not alive if it can’t support life on its own.

If Iowa declares a state of emergency does that give them the ability to shut PP down? Or does that require martial law? Set your opinions of abortion aside because I'm looking at the legality of it. If they can do that then what else can they do?

Don't worry grandma, we'll get you a bed and some medicine as soon as Stacy gets done with her "essential, time-sensitive medical procedures like abortion." I hope this lawsuit gets used as lining for a hamster cage.

Getting a broken arm fixed is also an "elective procedure." Something being elective and necessary are not mutually exclusive.

All these “experts” and yet none of you understand what elective surgery means. If you had cancer would you want it removed but that’s generally an elective surgery. The terms elective and emergency surgery are used for billing dumbassess. It indicates whether the surgery was scheduled in advance. Rather than needs to be performed without notice and immediately as in emergency surgery. It classifies risk. Abortion can fall under either definition. Depending on circumstance. Just like cancer and hernias and many others.

Some talk about how people have the right to freedom but that freedom ends at the right to do with your body as you will? Not to mention the people who have abortions are considering the quality life that child would be able to have if it was born. Sacrificing your time with your baby for working extra hard when you didn't expect to have to is not right. Marrying because of a baby rarely leads to the baby having a good example of loving parents. A child should have their parents full attention and to do that being a parent has to be intentional not accidental. Not to say all accidental babies should be aborted. I don't judge those who make the choice to parent in the face of great adversity but great adversity is not great odds that you will be able to parent well.
