Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Hungary’s parliament on Monday approved a bill giving Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government extraordinary powers with no end date for them. President Janos Ader signed the bill into law shortly after. Critics say the bill includes measures against false information which could be used by the government to muzzle independent media.
It's a bird it's a plane, Oh wait no, It's the 1920-30s all over again...
Orban has been after such powers for a while. We shall see if he gives them up after the wuhan flu fades as an emergency.
I'm currently studying Weimar Germany at university and the parallels are indistinguishable. Using a manufactured crisis is how it begins, and this generation is not equipped for what comes next.
I love how the media is fear-mongering this. They claim that Orban gave these powers to himself and then in the next sentence they claim it was a crushing vote in the Hungarian parliament that gave him these powers. It's Democratic Dictatorship ™, MUCH better than regular Dictatorship. :D
