US consumer confidence tumbles to 33-month lows as ’hope’ plunges

US consumer confidence tumbled this month to its lowest level in nearly three years as the impact of the coronavirus on the economy began to be felt. The index of consumer confidence fell to 120 in March from a revised 132.6 in February. It was the lowest reading since June 2017. Confidence is predicted to fall further as the virus’ impact takes a bigger toll on the economy.
