US economy lost more than 700,000 jobs in March

The US govt employment report shows that hiring plunged in early March as COVID-19 ended a record 113 straight months of job growth. The economy lost 701,000 jobs last month, and the unemployment rate rose to 4.4%, the Labor Department said on Friday. Leisure & hospitality industries were hit the most. The report reflects the week of March 8-12, before most of the economic contraction occurred.
