Trump uses Defense Production Act to order GE, Philips to make ventilators

President Trump announced that he had used the Defense Production Act to order US companies to manufacture and deliver more urgently needed ventilators to fight the coronavirus pandemic. He said the order would help domestic manufacturers like GE, Hill-Rom, Medtronic, ResMed, Royal Philips and Vyaire Medical secure the supplies they need to build ventilators needed to defeat the virus.

These companies should have stepped up on their own and avoided the embarrassment of being forced by the U.S. gov't. I may consider taking my business elsewhere when COVID-19 is over.

They were already doing it. It will take an impossible amount of time to obtain copyrights and part blueprints, never mind how long it's going to take to retrofit factories designed to make a totally different product.
