Dr. Fauci urges nation to stay at home. Trump gives states flexibility

In his strongest comments yet, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has become a prominent face in the fight against the pandemic, is now saying that he ’doesn’t understand’ why every state isn’t under a stay-at-home order. ’I don’t understand why that’s not happening,’ Fauci told CNN at a town hall Thursday night—we really should be.’ President Trump has said that he wants to give the states flexibility.

Governors should decide. Each state has their own govern body, why keep asking Trump to grab more power, left want Trump to be the emperor of America?

"The tension between federally mandated versus states rights to do what they want is something I don’t want to get into,” Fauci said of a federal order to stay home. Yeah, that title and synopsis are very misleading. Also, the 10th Amendment protects against a federal mandate. It really is up to the States.

So Trump isn't dogmatically implementing the edicts of the man who thought you could get AIDS from a toilet seat? Wow, he's really unhinged you guys.

Most states dont have the authority shy of declaring martial law. Even Pennsylvania doesn't legally have the right to issue the orders they have been, as Coronavirus does not meet the criteria of the law they are citing for emergency powers. Even Trump would likely have to enact martial law to issue and enforce a nationwide stay at home order. Some states like New York are even violating the constitution in the orders they are issuing.

I find it hilarious that Trump is the cautious one. He doesn't want the government overstepping its boundaries.

One thing the lefties are ignoring is that you can’t trample people’s rights at a time like this or you cause unrest, protests, and maybe even riots. It’s really good that trump isn’t doing that becuase any of those three would severely worsen the situation.

I agree respect for federalism is good. But Trump could do much more to encourage it. For instance, Gov. Abbott of Texas thanked Trump for letting him declare Texas a disaster area on March 23. He didn't declare a stay-at-home until March 31. Trump could have encouraged it much sooner. Florida was also slow (36th state to do so) and DeSantis only did it after he spoke to Trump. South Carolina has a worse incidence than Texas (as % of pop) and still has not declared a state-at-home.

Looks like trump is not such a dictator after all. Good that someone keeps the law were it belongs. Not in the hands of Ivory towers.

This argument (in a way) goes back to when the Constitution was written, & the Civil War. How much power does/should the Federal Government have over our daily lives versus the individual state governments? It was very much fought over (verbally) when the Constitution was being hammered out. The industrial North thought it had the right to tell the agricultural South how to go about it's business. (Now, morally, I am against any slave owning ever!!!) The South knew it would be destroyed if forced to give up slavery which was what kept it afloat. Dr Fauci is pushing for unified Federal Government control. President Trump is trying to keep it more balanced by allowing the states control, but using the Defense Production Act where he has to.

The states are to govern themselves. The president should not ever take away that power. He is doing the right thing. The states should be provided with the necessary information to make the decision themselves.

Have our leaders all forgotten about our nation and the Bill of Rights? Except for a few, it appears they have. We have the right tomove about as we please. See also the First Amendments 5 rights of citizens to be protected by our government. Rights are not granted by government to citizens. Our leaders must either pass laws to do what is needed (which would later be found unconstitutional) or do the better option and give us sound advice showing the benefits and hazards while not violating rights.

Go figure. The Narcissist-in-Chief doesn't listen to people smarter than him. I can bet that Dr. Fauci will be mysteriously fired after this settles down.

Very interesting to see that listening to experts is "picking a side", in the US.

Far be it from me to undermine somebody with the knowledge and experience of dr. Fauci But he's just plain wrong. They don't need to have shut down everywhere. My county has like four recorded cases. We don't need the same policy as New York That would be insane

Our nation was built with a strong system of states' rights. The federal government /should/ be reluctant to make a national order.

Trump had always listened to these "unelected experts" why do they still act like he isn't. Not every place is the same or facing the same dangers and the numbers have wildly over played thus far so don't spin what Trump says out of context.

It's not happening bc we have an "idiot" for a leader! His loyalty lies to no one but himself; you pay him a "ransom" of great multitude and you have your slightest "evil" wish! This country is "going to hell at rocketship speed."
