Job openings stood at almost 7 million in the US before the coronavirus struck

On February, the number of job openings in the U.S. was 6.9 million. That number was 7.5 million slightly over a year ago, which is the highest number on record. However, when large parts of the economy started shutting down in March this year, the available jobs was likely to sustain a record decline. Over 10 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits during the last two weeks of March.
