Japan declares ’state of emergency’ as coronavirus cases start to soar

Japan PM Shinzo Abe has declared a month-long state of emergency Tuesday as the cases of coronavirus surge in the country and also rolled out a nearly $1 trillion stimulus package to soften the economic blow. The state of emergency is imposed in the capital, Tokyo, and six other prefectures. The announcement came as COVID-19 infections in Tokyo have doubled to about 1,200 in the past five days.
