Jack Dorsey pledges $1 billion for COVID-19 relief efforts

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has pledged $1 billion of his stake in Square to help fund relief efforts related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dorsey said the amount represents about 28% of his wealth and will be donated to his charity fund, Start Small. The focus of the charity would later shift to universal basic income and girls’ health and education. Dorsey’s net worth is estimated at $3.3 billion.

No matter who the money is for, "pledging" money is a far cry from writing an actual check. I do not doubt Jacks humanitarian intent, but corporate pledges rarely fullfill theIr initial promise. It is good optics more than anything else.
