The agriculture ministry of China announced that it was drawing up new guidelines which would see dogs being reclassified as pets, instead of livestock. The Humane Society has said that the move is a potential ’game changer’ in animal welfare.
Can't believe that it took CCP launching a pandemic which will ruin untold lives, before they realised that you can eat something a bit more 'western'. It's not even the issue that they eat dogs, it's the lack of compassion they show to their animals and total absence of modern hygiene that is the issue.
Political enemies are still classified as livestock... Makes harvesting their organs less problematic.
How about bats or contaminated lab animals. Are those livestock?
Even the deadly SARS virus has escaped — twice — from the Beijing lab where it was (and probably is) being used in experiments. Both “man-made” epidemics were quickly contained, but neither would have happened at all if proper safety precautions had been taken.
And then there is this little-known fact: Some Chinese researchers are in the habit of selling their laboratory animals to street vendors after they have finished experimenting on them.
You heard me right.
Instead of properly disposing of infected animals by cremation, as the law requires, they sell them on the side to make a little extra cash. Or, in some cases, a lot of extra cash. One Beijing researcher, now in jail, made a million dollars selling his monkeys and rats on the live animal market, where they eventually wound up in someone’s stomach.
I realize it is a cultural difference and based on societal perception, but I can't fathom any dog being slaughtered inhumanely and eaten for a food source. I am so thankful that I was born and live in a country that recognizes (most of the time) animal rights and where most people see the importance of protecting them from suffering. I hope China and other like countries will come to see dogs as valuable companions and not just meat. You can truly define a country's society by how they treat their most vulnerable citizens and their animals.
Does it mean they'll stop eating them?
True story... We had a Min pinscher and went to our favorite Chinese restaurant to pick up food when the waiter comes out. Smiling, he says "Ooooh, your dog looks so tasty!" We laughed... And rolled up the windows!
... they had dogs classified as livestock...
Yet for DECADES they would call you racist for saying "they eat dogs". Guilin meat festival will still exist even after this. Chinese ALWAYS sweep these things under the rug but the fact is +400 million Chinese (+25%) are still in abject squalor and will continue to eat any flesh they have access to. Fun fact, Chinese were big into cannibalism for most of their history up until today:
(20,000-30,000 civilians were eaten)
bats and pangolins are still livestock?
It's called poverty extreme in many places..are we any better when we turn a blind eye to dog fighting..their livestock to our amusement n gambling..support ur spca
Finally my two pets thank u..
Great if true.
In 1998us had to jump on s Korea to cease serving dog.. They simply hid it n their ghettos n poverty in Seoul using billboards to barrier off their lesser ppl...up in hills they still eat dog... Kagoghi.. That's dog
So CCP admit to eating pets along with every other type of animal.
They won't enforce it
It doesn't matter, they will still steal your pet and eat it when hungry!
(20,000-30,000 civilians were eaten)
Here’s something that’s been long overdue
Sounds good. But what about the bordering countries which do good business with all kinds of animal meats.
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit...
