NYC shortens deadline for claiming dead

As NY faces a surge in coronavirus deaths & declining morgue space, authorities have cut the time for holding unclaimed remains before they are buried. As per the new policy, the medical examiner’s office will hold bodies for 14 days before they are buried in potter’s field on Hart Island. For now, burial operations have increased from one day a week to five days a week.
