UK Company pays $2.3mn ransom in Bitcoin to Cybercriminals

Company based in UK, named Travelex has reportedly paid ~$2.3mn in Bitcoin to hackers after being attacked by ransomware on Jan 11. As per the report in The Wall Street Journal, the UK based firm’s networks were penetrated by cybercriminals with a ransomware injection in the New Year eve of 2020. The company operates in foreign-exchange kiosks services located in airports & tourist sites globally.
