Protections for inspectors general sought by Democrats

The top federal agency watchdogs of the United States have been approached by twenty House committee chairs for advice on how to protect themselves from potential retaliation by President Donald Trump, in case they report any wrongdoing or mismanagement in his administration. Legislative proposals are currently being sought which could restrict Mr. Trump’s ability to remove inspectors general.

"If your going to take a shot at the king, you better be sure you don't miss!" I honestly understand why they looked into and probed the Ukraine situation, but I'm still wondering why they went ahead with Impeachment when there was a lower threshold of evidence than ever before. Looking at the polls it ended up being a PR boon for Trump, and there is anedotal evidence the Democrats lost life long supporters. I honestly understand the Political strategy, but even when I put ethics aside, going through with the Impeach always seemed to risky to me. Especially now that all those involved have to worry about being fired.

This is a pre-emptive attempt to eliminate consequence of their own falsehood and corruption. "Protect..." yeah protect from what? Having to prove yourself with evidence and being found a liar? Only someone who has something to hide needs no one look closely.

"how can I protect myself?" Ummm, try not lying about the president or making baseless accusations to smear him

Right, until another IG investigates Schiff, pelosi, Hillary or Obama, then it's "these IGs are out of control"!

This sounds pretty corrupt. If they are doing a good job and not misleading people, then they should not need extra protection. But truth be told, I'm not sure I know too much about this topic

This is good, they should have protections for watchdogs to prevent the kind of abuse of power that Trump has been engaged in regarding IGs.

First sign they’re expecting “consequences.”

I appreciate the effort but it doesn't stand a chance obviously.
