Trump says he put Mexico ’over the barrel’ to force oil deal

Trump said he convinced Mexico president Andrés Manuel López Obrador to agree to a 100,000 barrels production cut to reduce global oil production as the coronavirus tanks demand. ’We are trying to get Mexico, as the expression goes, over the barrel,’ Trump said. ’And Mexico is committing to do 100,000 fewer barrels. President Obrador and I spoke last night. We have a great relationship.’

Why are we participating in this? We need to ban energy imports and scuttle any attempt at a global deal. It will stabilize domestic prices for oil producers and continue to cause havoc amongst our enemies. Anybody else notice how few democracies are in OPEC? The US and NAFTA need to be uncoupled from global energy markets altogether just as most nations ban certain foodstuffs.

The whole thing sounds weird, at such a low price the USA was going to keep production up like normal? They would lose money.

100,000 barrels?? Really?? Mexico pumps that per hour. So they probably agreed to a longer "siesta" at lunch time.
