US Govt gave grant to Wuhan lab, claims British tabloid

As per reports, the Wuhan Institute of Virology believed to have undertaken experiments on mammals, received a grant of $3.7 million from the US Govt. As per The Mail on Sunday, scientists at the institute experimented on bats as part of a project funded by the US NIH, making it eligible for grants. Some theories accuse the lab of being the source of COVID-19 resulting from experiments on bats.

The Sun and The Daily Mail, are fear mongering tabloids. Any claim they make should be taken with 50kg of salt.

Things should start being done in the US and that includes investigative work. China has proven once again that the world can't rely on them. They can't be trusted.

No it's not claimed, study published in nature medicine states it. This is public document. 09 November 2015 https://www.nature.com/articles/nm.3985 A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence What is narture medicine? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_Medicine Nature Medicine is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal publishing research articles, reviews, news and commentaries in the biomedical area, including both basic research and early-phase clinical research covering all aspects of medicine.

One more study about creating deadly viruses in the lab. They acknowledge creating these viruses is very dangerous. They eleven mention ACE2 receptor Exactly like the current virus. https://europepmc.org/article/MED/27095615 Engineering Coronaviruses to Evaluate Emergence and Pathogenic Potential. In order to predict whether a SARS-related bat CoV, named WIV1-CoV, discovered in Chinese horseshoe bats in Yunnan [6], had the potential to emerge in humans, Menachery et al. synthesized a full-DNA clone based on the sequence of the virus [1]. The clone was shown to be able to generate infectious virus in primary human airway epithelial cell culture, confirming its ability to efficiently replicate in human cells. When the spike gene of WIV1-CoV was used to replace that of SARS-CoV MA15, a mouse-adapted virus [7], the resulting CoV did not replicate efficiently or cause disease in mice. However, if transgenic mice that expressed the ACE2 receptor were used, WIV1-CoV was able to replicate and cause weight loss. These experiments showed that WIV1-CoV actually has significant potential to emerge in humans. Despite the academic contribution of these research studies, such potentially gain-of-function experiments must be scrutinized and handled with the utmost care. Recently, there has been much discussion and debate on the potential threats of gain-of-function experiments [10]. ****There are fears that accidental release of these ‘super-virulent’ viruses or their use as biological weapons may lead to uncontrollable epidemics. **** However, we believe that these gain-of-function experiments should not be banned because of the potential threats. By contrast, each experiment should be carefully examined for the potential benefits weighed against potential threats. In our opinion, the potential benefits are enormous, as exemplified by the works by Menachery et al. 1, 2. It is the laboratory practice and conduct of the researchers that are most important in safeguarding any potential leakage of viruses.

First of tabloid claims? Was there funding or not. Clearly there was. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shi_Zhengli In 2014, Shi Zhengli was involved in an investigation of bat coronaviruses, specifically gain of function experiments involving both the SARS and bat coronaviruses, a joint research of University of North Carolina and Wuhan Institute of Virology, with Ralph S. Baric as principal investigator.[9] That same year funding for the project in the US had been paused[10] due to the moratorium on risky virology studies with influenza, MERS & SARS viruses, announced by the US government that year.[11 https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-chinas-bat-woman-hunted-down-viruses-from-sars-to-the-new-coronavirus1/ How China’s “Bat Woman” Hunted Down Viruses from SARS to the New Coronavirus Wuhan-based virologist Shi Zhengli has identified dozens of deadly SARS-like viruses in bat caves, and she warns there are more out there Her studies had shown that the southern, subtropical areas of Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan have the greatest risk of coronaviruses jumping to humans from animals—particularly bats, a known reservoir for many viruses. If coronaviruses were the culprit, she remembers thinking, “could they have come from our lab?” https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/taxpayer-funded-animal-experiments-tied-to-chinese-wet-markets-and-wuhan-laboratory Taxpayer-funded animal experiments tied to Chinese 'wet markets' and Wuhan laboratory “When I learned our government was spending taxpayers' money at China's disgusting wet markets to buy and slaughter cats and dogs for cruel experiments, I helped lead the successful effort to stop it last year," Rep. Matt Gaetz, who was instrumental in ending the USDA's kitten experiments, reacted to the news in a statement. "I'm disgusted now to learn that, for years, the U.S. government has been funding dangerous and cruel animal experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which may have contributed to the global spread of coronavirus, and research at other labs in China that have virtually no oversight from U.S. authorities," the Florida Republican continued. "It's unnecessary and unacceptable for American taxpayers to fund these institutions, and it has to end now."

Always attack the source but the underlining information is not in dispute. The studies and funding are correct. The DNA of source of bats from same Yunnan caves as funded in study,is not denied. So basically you can only deny the conclusion. But everyone acts like the entire story (all the information) is just like big foot report or something, are you just lazy? Who are you people?

Don't believe the false narratives. Just because there is a report about the us government providing grants for a lab on wuhan does not make it the center of the coronavirus epicenter.
