Vanuatu elects new prime minister as country reels from cyclone

Vanuatu’s parliament has elected a new prime minister. Bob Loughman, the leader of Vanua’aku, one of Vanuatu’s oldest political parties, was elected prime minister by a ballot of lawmakers. The new government will be required to hit the ground running amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The country also bore the brunt of the passage of Tropical Cyclone Harold in April.
