FB along with CMU maps out Covid-19 symptoms across US

FB in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University has launched a map that shows county-level data on people with virus symptoms, not confirmed cases. The data comes from a survey taken by FB users that asks them to self-report COVID-19 symptoms that they or family members would have. This would help local hospitals and health officials anticipate things like hospitalizations weeks in advance.

The good thing about this is that it is voluntary -- they are not spying on people to collect the information. The bad news is that it only picks up people who are Facebook members, have time to be on Facebook and who are willing to give Facebook such information. That would exclude many of those most likely to be infected including: essential workers, poor people, prisoners and many elderly.
