Facebook blocking anti-social distancing events

Facebook blocking anti-social distancing events

Facebook will remove events that violate state social distancing guidelines. For example in California, Nebraska and New Jersey gatherings are illegal and Facebook has deleted events. While discussions are underway in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Anti-lockdown protests have become partisan. Health authorities fear large gatherings will spread Covid-19, subverting lockdown wins.

It's nice to have global corporations telling the people what they can and cannot say. Lots better than having the government do it. But then, what is the government if not an employee of the global corporations anyway?

Will they ban rent strike protests? Or only events that oppose their political (religious) beliefs.

Censorship. Everyone has the right to have their views heard whether they’re right or wrong just like how people with opposing views have the right to voice theirs. Companies and governments shouldn’t decide for us.

The Facebook website is based out of Ireland. Why are they telling us what to do when their company is not even being hosted in the United States.

Newsvoice isn't any better. They keep deleting and hiding comments posted on these articles. They keep restraining speech and engaging in censorship and eventually will have their users move elsewhere.

Why is the left defending this complete overreach or constitutional rights by a corporation?

Well, Facebook is a private company so it has the right to moderate the content on its own platform as it sees fit. I fail to see the problem and why would some feel entitled to use a platform such as Facebook even though they won't respect the user agreement license and rules.

I don’t understand what happened to the folks who understood internet ethics that started these companies. In this case freedom of political speech is protected. Usually, these sites would have a basis for removing content due to the fact that it’s illegal, but the constitution beats state statute all day long, so I would just abstain from taking any action in this case. The need to take a stand against people you don’t like has grown fat too much for my liking.

Private corporations like Favebook CAN limit what is on their platform and what is said. The US government can't. Facebook makes money from what is on their FREE to use platform. So their best interest is in the legal use of it. Don't be a Headline Hero. Realize the difference here before saying "tHiS iS sOcIaLiSm PeOpLe".

Good to see Facebook doesn't want to help with an astroturfing protest campaign that is likely to spike hospitalizations and deaths. That or they don't want culpability to those deaths, because who would? Remember, all you "free market" warriors who always argue that regulatory power is unnecessary as corporations will regulate themselves in the interests of public safety and good PR. This is what you argue for.
