Cuomo calls for frontline workers to be given bonuses

Andrew Cuomo, the Governor of New York requested the federal government on Monday to issue ’bonuses’ to frontline workers who do not have the ’luxury of staying home’. Mr. Cuomo said that health professionals, grocery store employees, first responders and transit workers should be given 50 percent bonuses over what they are being paid to work during the pandemic.

Why doesnt Governor Cuomo suggest or push for tax reductions at the State/local levels (either for a temporary or permanent basis) so "front line workers" can keep more of their wages and, at the same time, help the State's economy recover. These workers will have more spending money and will more than likely spend that money once the crisis has past. Not only that, but, returning workers can use the tax savings to help them climb out of any debt they got into becuase of the crisis. I know this idea won't cross his mind since he wants the Feds to pay up since his state can't fund such a large payout without a serious drain on the State's coffers and he cant raise taxes as that will hinder any economic recovery post crisis.

The democrats introduced the Heroes Fund, its supposed to grant bonuses for essential workers and be part of the 4th stimulus bill. Im sure Republicans will shoot it down though of course.

I actually somewhat agree with him paying bonuses for state employees if that's what he wants to do. But don't go telling private businesses they should pay bonuses and sure as hell don't go paying bonuses for those employees with taxpayer money!
