Driver in NJ crash may have passed out from wearing N95 mask too long: Police

A New Jersey woman who crashed her car into a power pole is ’believed’ to have passed out after wearing an N95 mask behind the wheel for several hours, which resulted in ’insufficient oxygen intake/excessive carbon dioxide intake’, police said. Police said that while masks should be used in public settings, they’re ’not necessary when driving a vehicle with no additional occupants.’

Fear combined with stupidity is a dangerous mix.

Already isolated by the car, less need to wear a mask too.

Much more likely that the woman just fell asleep at the wheel without the mask contributing to it. Other professions wear such masks for greater periods of time without "passing out" so I don't think the NJ police should be spreading this idea.

Wow the social-communist herd mentality. 'Uhh what do I do, wear mask?' Masks r for places where 6 feet of separation can't be kept. If no one is around u, then u don't need a mask.

Not likely at all. They put N95 masks on hypoxic patients with potential virus all the time. It does not impede breathing, but can cause a sense of not being able to breathe possibly causing hyperventilation.

If you're dumb enough to wear a mask in your car, by yourself, maybe you had this coming.
