Swedish city to use chicken manure to deter crowds

The Swedish city of Lund is to dump a tonne of chicken manure in its central park in an effort to deter a crowd of 30,000 to gather for Walpurgis Night, a holiday marked across central and northern Europe with parties. Officials said the initiative would help prevent Lund from turning into a coronavirus epicenter on 30 April, however, the drawback is that the smell may not be confined to the park.

What a shitty thing to do!

Doesn't chicken manure dry up and turn into a respiratory hazard? Maybe that's not a big risk without prolonged exposure, but I'd be pretty pissed off if my city started dumping a potential health hazard near my house 'to keep us safe'. It stinks, too.

This sort of thing is why I'm hesitant to use Sweden as an example of what to do in the US, even though people are saying they kept thier sociery open without lockdowns. These are totalitarian moves.

Sure it may keep some people away, but people who love burning chicken manure are going to flock to it in droves. Risky....
