Malaysia close to attaining malaria free status says health minister

The Malaysian Health Ministry has said that the country has not recorded any domestic malaria (indigenous) cases since 2018. An indigenous case is defined as acquired by mosquito transmission in an area where malaria is a regular occurrence. Authorities said, if Malaysia manages this until 2021, it would be eligible to apply for malaria-free status certification from the WHO.
