Female genital mutilation banned in Sudan

Female genital mutilation banned in Sudan

Sudan’s new govt has banned the practice of female genital mutilation. The UN estimates that nearly nine in 10 Sudanese women have been subjected to this practice, which involves partial or total removal of external female genitalia and can cause fatal health problems. Post the ban, any who performs female genital mutilation faces a possible three-year prison term and a fine under the new law.
