Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.) defended his decision to run as a 3rd-party candidate in the election, denying that he would play a ’spoiler role’ and tip the election toward Trump. ’We don’t know how the additional candidate changes a race. It’s too impossible to figure out, ’Amash said, adding,’The most important thing is we have a ballot. If you want to vote for someone, you vote for that person.’
Regardless of political leanings, third parties face "spoiler" charge. Instant Runoff Voting (IRV)/Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) could address this.
Run Justin... The real gop needs u to be a choice
If a very popular candidate runs as a third party, we might have a 1912-esque situation on our hands. For those who aren't sure what I'm saying, I'll explain: In 1912, Howard Taft, the incumbent president, was running for reelection as a Republican. His Democrat opponent was Woodrow Wilson. Theodore Roosevelt was also running, but as a third party, called the "Bull Moose party" (it was called this because Teddy had a reputation for being as tough as a bull moose in the boxing ring. The guy was an absolute CHAD. He once kept reading a speech after being SHOT! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUJyMFjFTXc&t=377s). Had he run as a Republican, he could easily have clinched the nomination, because he was much more popular as president as Taft (Taft was pretty unpopular, while Teddy was, and still is, one of the most popular presidents of all time.) Because Teddy ran as a third party, the Republican vote was split between him and Taft. This allowed Wilson to sweep the election, and the rest is, literally, history.
Politics aren't about politics anymore. This is about culture. Political parties are dead
Gives decent ppl in gop a choice
2024 would be the perfect time to run a serious third party. At this point, I'm more than happy to see someone other than a Republican or Democrat in office. We need to break this partisan behavior. I'd be curious to see what would happen with Supreme Court appointment.
