Daily fatalities down in parts of Europe but France believes virus hit in 2019

As parts of Europe begin relaxing their lockdown controls and some start to see a decline in daily fatalities, startling new evidence in France suggests infections there began in December. France, Italy and Spain have registered the lowest daily death tolls for weeks: France reported 135 deaths; Spain’s 164 was the lowest figure since mid-March; and Italy’s 174 was the lowest in two months.
