O2 and Virgin Media in merger talks to create mobile, TV and broadband giant

O2 is in talks to merge with broadband and TV provider Virgin Media in a move which would create one of the UK’s largest entertainment and telecoms companies. Spanish firm Telefonica, which owns O2, confirmed that it was in talks with Virgin-owner Liberty Global. A combination of the two would create a business with annual sales of more than £11bn and tens of millions of UK customers.
