What happened 60 years ago today?

60 years ago, on this day, a black man was stopped by the police after he was seen driving a white woman. The man’s citation on May 4, 1960 resulted in him being sentenced to a chain gang, illegally. This mistreatment of the black man severely backfired, as blacks voted en-masse for the Democratic Party, bringing an end to Jim Crows laws in the Deep South. The black man was Martin Luther King Jr.
