Uber’s Middle East business Careem cuts 31 percent of workforce

Uber’s Careem subsidiary said on Monday it was cutting 536 jobs this week, representing 31% of the Dubai-headquartered company’s workforce. The employees who are laid off will receive at least 3 months’ severance pay. Careem, which operates ride-hailing and delivery businesses primarily in the Middle East, made the cuts to preserve the business and its vision to create a consumer-facing app.
