Greg Zanis, who made crosses for mass shooting victims, dies at 69

An Illinois man who spent years making crosses and bringing them to the sites of mass shootings and other disasters around the US died Monday from bladder cancer in Aurora, where he lived. A retired carpenter, Greg Zanis, made more than 26,000 wooden memorials — most of them crosses — for victims of mass shootings from Newtown, Conn., to Las Vegas and El Paso during the past two decades.
