Treasury to borrow nearly $3 trillion for COVID-19 relief

The U.S. Treasury Department claimed on Monday that it plans to borrow $2.999 trillion in the second quarter of 2020. That is more than the previous record borrowing for an entire fiscal year of $1.28 trillion in 2009. During the July-September quarter in 2008, the Treasury borrowed $530 billion, which was the last-highest recorded quarter.
