San Francisco gives drugs, alcohol to addicts isolating from COVID-19 in hotels

San Francisco’s health department confirmed Wednesday that the city was administering alcohol, tobacco, medical cannabis and other substances in an effort to prevent a number of homeless people quarantined in hotels from going outside to get the substances themselves. The health department said harm reduction strategies are proven to be more effective than trying to force people to go cold turkey.

Drugs and alcohol on the taxpayer’s dime are now a human right but the right to bear arms is just a right wing talking point. This is the world we live in folks. Clown world is an understatement

I love this. I go to work every day and deal with huge crowds. Lose huge chunks of my paycheck to taxes. Homeless people get free drugs and my unemployed friends make more money by just sitting at home.

I can understand this for addicts stuck in a user or die situation. The others should be forced cold turkey.

It is worth noting these folks are likely to die from withdrawal symptoms if left alone.

The absolute ignorance regarding addiction in the comments here is stunning. The American Medical Association, which I guarantee are better situated to make a decision on this than any of the ignorant people making judgements here, have stated addiction is a disease. How can we punish someone for having a disease? Oh wait, we have been. How's that working out for us?
