How to cook a murder hornet - ask the Japanese honeybees

Murder hornets have many defenses such as powerful stings and crushing mandibles. They won’t kill humans (although, their sting is extremely painful), but can be catastrophic to bee populations. The native Japanese honeybees have developed a specialized defense - once a signal has been given, the honeybees ’dogpile’ on the hornet, engulfing it with a vibrating temperature of 117-degree furnace.

Great, except I read that the US honeybees don't use this defense. Maybe import a few Japanese martial arts instructor bees.

I have seen the same type of defense by European bees against yellow jackets and the smaller hornets. I guess US bees will learn it fast. This is what a biologist would call strong selective pressure. Darwin ftw

I have seen bees do this to an introduced queen bee they don't like.

Here's hoping the US bees figure it out fast. I like my honey.

I'm pretty sure I heard that these things were here a couple years ago
