’1619 Project’ founder loses UNC tenure

Nikole Hannah-Jones, founder of the 1619 Project, has lost her alma mater’s offer for tenure and is instead under consideration for a five-year contract as a professor of practice. The University of North Carolina’s board of trustees allegedly decided not to approve Hannah-Jones’ tenure despite support from faculty. One of the board members reportedly said that ’politics’ motivated the decision.
