Deforestation of the Amazon has soared amid COVID-19

As per reports, logging and mining operations have accelerated their destruction of sizable patches of the Amazon rainforest during the COVID-19 pandemic. Environmentalists blamed Brazilian President Bolsonaro for what they see as his tacit approval of the deforestation, arguing the pandemic has provided a cover for operations. Deforestation in the Amazon soared by 55% this year compared to last.
