Melissa Etheridge’s son Beckett, 21, dies after opioid addiction struggle

Singer Melissa Etheridge announced Wednesday that her and filmmaker Julie Cypher’s 21-year-old son Beckett Cypher, has died after losing his battle with opioid addiction. Etheridge, 58, best known for songs including Aint It Heavy and Come To My Window, wrote a tribute to Beckett Cypher, one of her two children with former partner Cypher, on Instagram.

"According to the most recent World Drug Report, an estimated 585,000 people died as a result of drug use in 2017." And the number will undoubtedly be higher for 2020.
