Calgary Zoo returning pandas to China due to bamboo shortage

The Calgary Zoo in Canada is returning two giant pandas taken on loan from China because a scarcity of bamboo to feed them. Er Shun and Da Mao arrived in 2018 and were to remain in the Alberta city until 2023. Bamboo is rare in Canada and the pandas prefer only certain kinds. Limits on flights from China and issues in transporting bamboo from California has triggered the decision.
