Average adult will spend 34 years of their life looking at screens, claims study

Researchers claim that over the span of one’s life, an average adult spends not years but decades gazing at their digital devices. As per a poll by Vision Direct conducted among 2,000 British adults, the typical person will spend 34 years looking at phones, computers, or TVs. During the typical adult lifespan (age 18-81), a person will be glued to their screens for over 13 hours a day.

Okay so? This is cool and all but what's the issue? We also literally spend 1/3 of our life asleep. If you're 75 you wasted 25 being asleep.

Not all screen time is bad either. If it’s free time, I’m on a computer socializing with friends around the country through gaming. I’d be interested in solitary screen time as a worrying statistic but that would also include electronic books.

So? Aside from entertainment there's a lot of work, studies and productivity related stuff we also do on screens

Average academic years ago spend the same time looking at books. That's the issue when the economy switches.

I'm pushing to hit 75 years. I wonder if that would give me some kind of world record

Screens hurt your eyes. This shows that we need good quality screens and good habits.

"Interesting" I say as I look at my phone to read the article from the internet that allows me to get whatever information I desire in a moment's notice.

Not seeing an issue here, if anything i'm still waiting for a pair of eyeglasses with transparent displays built into the lenses.

How shameful. We should be spending 12 hours a day in coalmines instead.

Yes, because it's more fun than not looking at screens.
