Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican reopened strictly for prayers only on Monday. Few visitors queued up, maintained social distancing rules, and were observed by police officers wearing face masks before checking their temperatures at entry points. Despite opposition, including from Pope Francis, churches in Rome were shut owing to Covid-19 pandemic in early March.
