Germany, France propose €500B pandemic recovery fund for EU economies

Germany and France agreed Monday on a one-off $543bn fund to help the European Union recover from the pandemic. The fund would add to the more than half-trillion dollars in emergency relief measures the bloc’s 27 leaders signed off on last month. Its repayment would be the responsibility of the entire bloc, but it would primarily benefit the poorer south, which has been hit hardest by the virus.
