UN expresses alarm at violence in Afghan as April civilian casualties jump

The UN said civilian casualties in Afghan jumped to 380 in Apr, as the US withdraws troops and attempts a peace deal. Civilian casualties owing to Taliban rose by a quarter from the same month a year earlier to 208, while casualties owing to Afghan forces rose 38% to 172. Lyons, the UN Representative for Afghan called for a halt to the fighting and asked parties to respect humanitarian law.
