Sweden had most coronavirus deaths per capita in Europe last week

As per reports, Sweden has the highest number of deaths in Europe per capita from the COVID-19 disease over the last seven days. Sweden’s strategy has contrasted the rest of the region. While deaths are on the decline, Sweden had 6.25 deaths per million inhabitants per day in a rolling seven day average between May 12 and May 19. That UK had 5.75 deaths per million.

It's interesting that none of the articles specify what the per capita rate is compared to any other European nation. You'd think that would be kind of important when seeking to vilify Sweden for not putting the torch to their economy over this virus.

The difference isn't that large. Make one wonder just how beneficial the lockdowns really were.

The important number to compare is not deaths per time period, but how many got immune. Because if everybody stays under the lockdown, herd immunity doesn't get developed much and the moment it's lifted, you get a huge wave of newly infected. Whereas Sweden won't have the 2nd wave.

We already know the average age of death for a covid patient is at or above the average life expectancy. I'm not too concerned. Why don't they compare economic impact to the citizens next?

Putting the economy (money) before lives is what I find appalling. The whole herd immunity plan sacrifices the sick and elderly to push through this health crisis faster. Nations engaged in lock downs to protect their vulnerable citizens and preserve their medical resources to deal with severe cases. The evidence to date isn't showing much difference between the two in certain areas of the world. But by god intentions matter people! The nations that didn't lock down, with no clear data to show the consequences, decided to risk their population on a hunch. Truly inhumane!
