California Uber and Lyft drivers must transition to electric vehicles by 2030

According to MarketWatch, ’California is the first state in the nation to require that nearly all the miles traveled by ride-hailing drivers take place in electric vehicles by 2030. The California Air Resources Board on Thursday approved the new rules, which means Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. will need to ensure that most of their drivers transition to EVs in this decade’

Uber & Lyft are going to leave CA. The state has made it very clear that it is not compatible with their business model.

Slave to battery recharge times and the grid

I guess politicians in California hate the environment. Electric cars are far worse environmentally than gas or even diesel. Who profits from this? That has to be the reason.

What an idea! Let's discriminate against those who cannot afford to buy an electric car! Look, I'm all for cutting down on emissions, but we should be focusing on the big companies, not the people trying to make a living by driving others around.

So now the government can tell companies and private contractors what kind of car to buy? I'm sure none of them took money from the EV industry, either, right? Guess that's only evil when the oil companies do it.

Say good bye to Lyft and Uber in California. These guys don't make enough money to justify such a high dollar expense. They drive reasonably priced, everyday vehicles. Electric vehicles large enough to carry passengers and their stuff are WAY to expensive. Almost certainly spearheaded by taxi companies to drive away competition. So are all taxis going to be required to go electric? I'll bet not!!!

California has a hard time keeping the electricity on but forcing everyone to adopt EV and have even banned gas heaters in democrat cities. They don't care about people, nor their poor constituents that are too poor to adapt to EVs. The electricityirates in this state is already exorbitant and excessive while the CPUC allows PGE to pass on their negligence costs to consumers. Democrats are racketeering.

Go look up what a lithium mine looks like. And who owns the majority of lithium operations. Hint, it's dirty, destroys massive swaths of environments and its not a product of USA. We not only outsource our manufacturers, but as a result, our pollution.

YES! This is what you voted for, California gig drivers! Let's see you make rent NOW. Just wait, they aren't done...

The California government is pissed off that the California voters rejected the state's call to unionize the drivers and force Uber and Lyft to pay salaries (and hence withholding taxes to the state). This is just another way to punish the companies for daring to win the last round. Looking forward in a few years to Californians voting on a Proposition to postpone the gas-electric transition for another decade, once they realize the state government has no effective plan in place to make electric cars convenient, affordable and reliable.

Jeez… Amd, most of these drivers are just trying to make a living and probably not making enough to afford an electric car…

Uber, lyft, doordash, and the like, are all terrible business models in any state.

This is fairly sensible. EVs are ideal for them anyway.

But what if I want my Uber driver to have a V8 with Seal skin seat covers? I feel Uber is ignoring my needs.

Unity.Nat 3 weeks

So you will get pulled over and arrested if you drive gas powered cars in Cali now?

This is precisely what those nitwits voted for
