New genetic editing powers discovered in squid

Scientists have discovered that squid massively edit their own genetic instructions not only within the nucleus of their neurons, but also within the axon, according to a study Nucleic Acids Research. Other animals have been known to edit messenger RNA but only in the nucleus of a cell. That skill could help squids produce proteins tailored to meet a cell’s needs and hone crucial cell processes.
