House Republican introduces bill to hold up members’ pay if they vote by proxy

A group of House Republicans introduced a bill Thursday that would withhold pay for members of Congress who vote by proxy. The proposed legislation, led by Rep. Tedd Budd (R-N.C.), would deny a day’s pay for each day a lawmaker either votes by proxy or has a proxy record their presence in the House for a quorum. The withheld pay would be returned to the members at the end of the Congress.

This should generally be a permanent measure except in cases of illness or bereavement.

This Is pretty ironic considering it was recently released that Republican house members withheld the fact that they had covid from their fellow members. I think in a pandemic, it should be ok to vote while not being physically there. As long as the vote casted is approved by said member.

Right on David. Brian Sims unleashed an amazing fury on the Republican leadership for coming to work infected, not wearing masks and not telling their colleagues. Especially considering this guy donated a kidney and is already high risk. Unbelievable. What's more unbelievable was the Republican leadership response tweet which went something like, Whine whine whine boohoo get over it 😳🤦‍♂️http////youtu./e/uguL5Ox_pnE
