CNN reporter arrested live on air by Minnesota state police

A CNN reporter was arrested live on air on Fri morning by Minnesota State Patrol while reporting on the killing of George Floyd, a black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck while arresting him. Police clarified that the CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez was put in handcuffs and led away from his team of producers for refusing to move when he had been told to do so.

I watched the video and I’m not sure why anyone would be okay with this regardless of who it is or who they’re affiliated with.

As much as I hate CNN, the mayor and the cops in Minneapolis aren't handling this well. They aren't taking the steps needed to quash these riots and I have seen several reports showing the mayor making statements/taking actions in support of the rioters. When a man shooting a looter in defense of his own life gets arrested for murder, something fishy is about. Just arrest the officers involved in the death and forcefully quash any rioters that remain.

I’m going out on a limb here and assuming he and his crew were asked multiple times to move and decided to stand there and see what they would do about it then cried victim when they did something.

It's starting to sound like black people are Supreme to other people, since media sure does beat that drum REALLY hard. Why should it matter one way or another what the person looks like? If we're equal, wouldn't it make more sense to simply say a man was killed by police?

At least change "clarified" to "stated" in the summary because in video they clearly told The offciers that if they want them to move just tell them where they won't be in the way and they'll go there. So if the officers really stated that they refused to move then they're outright lying.

You have to obey lawful orders from police officers. CNN is not exempt from this.

Minneapolis state police that have the order and the officers that followed the order, must be held accountable by the last. They, the state police went beyond the law. They broke the very laws they're supposed to be upholding. I don't like CNN, but they still have the right to freedom of the press. First amendment rights.

That man did not deserve to be arrested. Good for him for remaining calm in the face of such intimidating force.

CNN is hot garbage, BUT!!! They should have the right to be present in public areas and record what's going on. Arrest the looters, not random reporters. Don't know what's so hard about that ffs.

The problem here is freedom of the press. The press has gone into warzones in the past. So long as they're willing to take the risk there's no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to record. Set aside your opinions. No one here would ever think I like CNN. When we start setting the law aside - and it makes no difference who is behind it - we're in trouble. If they can arrested for what they were doing then so can anyone reporting on the news. We don't want to go down that road.

This is the sort of thing s***hole countries do. America used to be able to point to other countries and say how superior we are because we are free. Now they point at is and laugh.

Changing from the original title and mission of PEACE officers to the repurposing and retitling them as POLICE officers, along with the militarization of police departments nationally is a recipe for disaster in a free and open society. That change shifted the entire psychology and mission of all of law enforcement. It removed them from being a part of the community, a trusted guide, problem solver, and a voice of reason use for mediation, and turned them into an enforcer, a problem seeker instead of solver. It separated them from the community, placing above and win a generally oppressive role, not a collaborative one.  It is that simple change of title and mission that has lead to the erosion of civil right and liberties. The role of an enforcer demands it, and we have let it happen over time. Giving up liberties for temporary security leaves you undeserving, and without either in the end.

Even tho it is CNN, anyone that isn't upset about this can't get up about America becoming a police state. The governor literally silenced the press. The governor allows "protests" to burn down buildings and loot, but if you show their mistake to the rest of country, you're in the wrong.
