Republicans pushing payroll-tax cut when 40M Americans filed for unemployment

Republicans are reportedly considering a proposal to suspend the payroll tax to shore up the income of the workers, despite opposition from the Dems. Payroll tax is used to finance social security with employees and employers each paying 6.2% on their wages. Many experts, however, have said that a payroll tax cut at a time when 40 million Americans have filled for unemployment is not a good idea.

This would incentivize people to get back to work instead of sitting on their a$$ collecting my money that I worked for that they didn’t earn.

A payroll tax deferment doesnt do anything for those that are not receiving payroll. Also deferment means you will have to pay it back at the end of the tax year, next spring.

again, payroll tax is what funds social security. this will not help. we don't need less money going to the government. we need a higher minimum wage and we need the 1% taxed at a progressive rate.

Cutting the payroll tax will help employers to keep employees rather than lay them off. We are in a pandemic, but the hatred for Trump is still strong.

I am in agreement. We desperately need less expenses on our balance sheet.
