Mining firm sorry for blowing up Aboriginal caves

Mining giant Rio Tinto apologized for the destruction of a sacred Aboriginal cave in Western Australia that showed evidence of continual habitation dating back 46,000 years. Rio Tinto blew up the cave last week in Juukan Gorge, north of Perth, as part of an expansion program in the Pilbara iron ore region. The destruction provoked a local outcry and calls for reform of heritage protection laws.

While a part if me believes it's the mining company's land and they can do what they want, I also think that was incredibly stupid considering the continuing relationships with the tribes themselves. Kind of a big oof all around. Don't blow up cool old shit.

Did the mining company not do their local environmental checks? Now a piece of history is lost, thanks to them.
