The U.S. is considering welcoming Hong Kongers in light of Chinese bills

In light of new Chinese security bills that will crack down on anti-Beijing speech and give China greater control over the city, Secretary of State Pompeo says that the U.S. is considering letting Hong Kongers come to the U.S. to live and conduct business. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also echoed the idea, saying that the U.S., as a ’beacon of light,’ should let in Hong Kongers.

Consider nothing, as far as I’m concerned they’re political refugees if they’re fleeing HK to escape China. Let them in, help them get started, and get them on a path to US citizenship. These folk look like they’d bring the mindset, work ethic, and values we like in the US.

I'd support it. This loss of freedom from China is major. They tried peaceful protest and failed. They made the attempt to make change and it didn't work. Now is the time to get out. Maybe the same with Taiwan if it comes to it.

I stopped calling myself libertarian when open borders became a litmus test, but I fully support taking in Hong Kongers as refugees. China is hell-bent on reigniting the cold war and the free world needs to keep them in their place.

Hell yeah. They're more American than a lot of Americans currently living here.

They won’t be short of opportunities, Australia has had proposals resettling Hong Kong into its shores and we’re not alone.

so brown people seeking asylum from violence should be met with cages and torn families, but if their yellow.... or is it because it would piss China off? because this ball of hate never does anything except out if spite. what happened to "our country is full, we have no more room"? did the 100k who died from covid make enough room? we should let in the asylum seekers first, they were in line first.

Why is “considering” news worthy? Considering is close to nothing. A waste of everyone’s times.

100% make them protected future citizens and send 2 carrier groups to the South China sea and one to Taiwan...time to start using the stick, the carrot rotted out. HK one of the most productive group of people on the planet, we need more like them.

I imagine the cartoon of the man sweating while trying to decide which button to push, but there are 3 buttons, and one is "stay under Chinese rule", the other is "move to America", and the other is "move to the UK". I half imagine them saying, "I'm desperate to move out, but I'm not THAT desperate yet!"

I'd say to let them all in... But with what's happening right now, would they want to come over?
