Independent autopsy shows George Floyd died of asphyxia

The attorney representing George Floyd’s family released Monday afternoon the findings of an independent autopsy that was performed by Dr. Michael Baden, former New York City chief medical examiner. The autopsy shows that Floyd died of ’asphyxia due to neck and back compression’. It added that Floyd had no underlying medical conditions that contributed to his death.

"crushing hypoxia" from weight in the back can lead to a lower tidal volume of inspired air, as well the pressure to the neck causing compression of the carotid artery and jugular vein, further decreasing oxygen to the brain, all together can lead to systemic hypoxia and hypercarbia, and eventually tachycardia to to bradycardia and finally ventricular fibrillation or complete cardiac arrest. No doubt the officers actions could lead to death without proper CPR or AED being applied after he went unresponsive.
