Chinese internet company to launch its own satellite

Chinese internet company ’Bilibili’ will launch its own satellite weighing 172 kg in late June. Labelled as an educational satellite by the company, it will be used to produce custom videos, participate in disaster monitoring and produce educational content related to space and aeronautics.

Launching satellites will no longer remain domain of Governments as the cost and weigh of components fall significantly. However, it will also lead to exponential growth of space debris. Policies should be put in place to manage the debris so that after pollution of water, air and land, we may not be looking at cleaning space in future.
